When Stu Van Scoyoc decided to launch a new consulting company, he came to me for a website that would represent the diverse areas of expertise that the founding Vice Presidents brought to the business. The website need to be buttoned-down enough for the corporate world, but elegant enough to catch the attention of a busy executive. Finally, staff within the company needed to be able to update the content on their own, and at a moment’s notice.

Although the design we decided on is quite subdued, there are numerous little touches that keep “subdued” far from “bland”. A texture here, a gradient or shadow there, all in there service of a look that reflects the company’s own attention to detail and subtlety. I used HTML5 and CSS3 for to enhance the site even more for visitors with modern browsers, while making sure it still looks great on less-capable platforms.

VSConsulting biography page As the third full website (after this and this) I have designed and developed for the Van Scoyoc family of companies, I was able to apply the lessons learned from the first two to make this their best site yet. All three sites are running on a single copy of Expression Engine, using the Multi-Site Manager, allowing them to be controlled from one control panel and to share users and data. This setup also greatly simplifies software upgrades, since the entire system uses one set of code.

I worked on the client-side coding, CMS setup, template design, XHTML/CSS.
